Maryland Coronavirus: Macy’s Temporarily Closes All Locations
Macy's will provide benefits and compensation to its impacted workers, according to a statement from the company.

MARYLAND — Macy’s announced Tuesday that it will be closing all stores until March 31 in a response to the growing new coronavirus crisis. The company has 16 locations in Maryland.
The closures will go into effect at the end of business Tuesday.
"As a result of the recent COVID-19 developments, we have decided to temporarily close our stores," Macy's CEO Jeff Gennette said in a statement released Tuesday.

The store closures include all Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Bluemercury, Macy’s Backstage, Bloomingdales the Outlet, and Market by Macy’s stores. Employees will receive compensation and benefits, according to Macy's, Inc.
All will continue to offer customers the ability to shop for products online.

Nordstrom also announced Tuesday that it will close all stores for two weeks.
News of the closures came the day after Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan prohibited gatherings of 50 people or more to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.
The illness has resulted in 94 deaths in the United States as of Tuesday afternoon, according to Johns Hopkins data, which indicates 17 people have recovered across the country and more than 5,700 people have tested positive for COVID-19.
In Maryland, 57 people have tested positive for the new coronavirus as of Tuesday morning, according to state health data, an increase of 20 since Monday morning. Three people in Maryland have recovered from the new coronavirus after testing positive March 5.

- Nottingham, White Marsh Mall
- Salisbury, Centre at Salisbury (was in midst of store closing sale)
- Towson, Towson Town Center
- Waldorf, St. Charles Town Center
- Wheaton, Wheaton Mall
"We will work with government and health officials to assess when we will reopen our stores and safely bring our colleagues back to work," Gennette said. "The health and safety of our customers, colleagues and communities is our utmost priority."
