Moped Driver Killed in Tollgate Road Crash: Harford Sheriff
Investigators said that speed and alcohol were not believed to be factors in the fatal crash.

BEL AIR, MD ā Officials say a Bel Air man has died from a moped crash that happened Thursday night on South Tollgate Road.
Nicholas Ryan Schmitt, 28, of Bel Air, was pronounced deceased Sunday night at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, the Harford County Sheriff's Office reported Monday.
Schmitt had been driving on South Tollgate Road near Bel Air South Parkway around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday when for unknown reasons, he hit a curb and was thrown from his moped, officials said.

Authorities said the moped landed on him.
Schmitt was taken to the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and transferred to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he died from his injuries, according to the sheriff's office.

Neither alcohol nor speed was a factor in the collision, officials said based on preliminary investigation.
