Motorcyclist Killed in Crash on Route 136: Police

Three vehicles were involved in fatal crash, police reported.

A motorcyclist died Tuesday after a crash involving three vehicles on MD 136, according to Maryland State Police.

John Scott Stewart, 56, of the 2200 block of Amoss Mill Road in Pylesville, was riding his motorcycle north on MD 136 when he approached Heaps Road one minute before noon and hit the back of an SUV, police reported.

A 2008 Ford Escape had stopped on northbound Route 136 with its left turn signal flashing, waiting to turn left onto Heaps Road, according to the report.

Meanwhile, a 1997 Ford 9000 dump truck headed south on Route 136 was coming up to the intersection, police said.

Stewart and his 1994 Harley-Davidson motorcycle hit the back of the SUV as a result of not slowing down for the turning vehicle, police said.

He was ejected from his motorcycle and landed in the northbound part of MD 136, where police said he was hit by the dump truck.

Stewart was taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased, according to police.

Police said neither alcohol nor speed was believed to be a factor in the crash.
