7 Vehicles Involved in Riverside Blaze, Fire Marshal Says

Abingdon firefighter noticed fire while passing by Country Inn parking lot, according to report.

Multiple vehicles were damaged in a Friday morning fire in Riverside, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal, which is looking into the cause.

At 6:01 a.m., an Abingdon firefighter passing by the 1400 block of Handlir Drive reported there was a fire in the parking lot at the Country Inn & Suites, according to the fire marshal.

The fire began in the engine compartment of a 2005 Cadillac Escalade and involved seven vehicles, according to the report.

Approximately 20 firefighters from Abingdon and Aberdeen responded and brought the blaze under control in approximately 20 minutes, the fire marshal reported.

Harford County hazardous materials personnel were called in to assist, the report said.

There was approximately $200,000 in damage to vehicles, the fire marshal reported, with an additional $5,000 worth of items lost inside the vehicles involved.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, according to the fire marshal.

(Previous report)—After several vehicles were damaged in a fire Friday morning in Riverside, officials say theOffice of the State Fire Marshal is looking into the cause.

At approximately 6:15 a.m. Friday, first responders were dispatched to a blaze in the 1400 block of Handlir Drive, according to the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company, which reported there were multiple vehicles on fire at the Country Inn & Suites.

At least five vehicles were damaged in the blaze, which crews from Abingdon andAberdeen fire companies also battled, according to Rich Gardiner of the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.

The fire marshal is investigating the cause, Gardiner said.

Nobody was injured in the fire, according to Gardiner.
