Mustangs Win State Field Hockey Championship

C. Milton Wright beat Mount Hebron in the class 3A championship.

C. Milton Wright earned its first state field hockey title in school history Saturday after beating Mount Hebron High School, 3-2.

Haley Matthai scored twice and Maggie Gallagher put in the third goal for the Mustangs, according to The Baltimore Sun.

C. Milton Wright had "a lot of firepower," Mount Hebron coach Jeannette Ireland told The Washington Post.

The Mustangs—a team that had only allowed four goals all season—gave up two in the first half, but C. Milton Wright coach Janice Rhodes told The Baltimore Sun her team "answered back within minutes."

The Mustangs' third goal came in the first 85 seconds of the second half, according to The Washington Postgiving C. Milton Wright the edge it needed to take home the trophy.

Some students traveled to Chestertown to watch the 6:30 p.m. game at Washington College, while others offered their #MustangNation congratulations on Twitter. Check out the reactions and photos here.
