National Ice Cream Day was signed into law by President Ronald Reagan in 1984 to recognize the industry for its economic contributions and to recognize the fact that, according to Reagan, the treat was enjoyed by more than 90 percent of the U.S. He also proclaimed July as National Ice Cream Month.
