NBC Nightly News Features Bel Air's Sleeping Baby Santa Pic

What is arguably the “best Santa picture ever”—taken right here in Bel Air—made it onto NBC Nightly News Wednesday evening.

Five-week-old Scarlett was sleeping when it was her turn for a picture with Santa at the Harford Mall, so he kicked up his feet and held Scarlett in his arms.

Anchor Brian Williams “loved the pic” of baby Scarlett asleep with Santa, according to a producer who contacted Patch before the broadcast.

“This was not only the sweetest photo we encountered today, but the perfect antidote to so much of the news we’ve been covering of late,” Williams said on the air.

The Harford Mall Santa picture ran in the final segment of the broadcast, following stories about the newly released CIA torture report and personal conduct rules in the NFL.

“We are so excited that they added some happiness to the world news,” said Scarlett’s mother, Jennifer Sawyer Genna, after the show. “Here’s to hoping that 30-second clip warmed hearts. How exciting for Santa, Scarlett, and Bel Air, MD!”

Even though baby Scarlett was born on Halloween, Genna said: “She will understand one day why we call her our little santababy.”
