Edgewood Neighbor Spies Chicken Coop On Fire, Saves Birds' Lives: MD State Fire Marshal
A quick acting neighbor saved the chickens housed in a coop that caught on fire Wednesday afternoon in Edgewood. The fire damaged the home.

EDGEWOOD, MD — A fire broke out Wednesday afternoon in a chicken coop located at the back of an Edgewood home at 3112 Sounding Drive. A quick acting neighbor set the chickens free and saved their lives.
The homeowners, Michael and Danny Lynn O'hern, weren't home at the time of the fire, which was discovered by a neighbor around 2:43 p.m. Jan. 24. The neighbor called 911 and released the chickens from the coop.
Around 20 firefighters with the Abingdon Fire Company took five minutes to control the fire, which the Office of the State Fire Marshal said was accidental and caused by heating pads in the chicken coop igniting straw and other combustibles.
