New Harford County Coronavirus Testing Site To Open

The Forest Hill VEIP station coronavirus testing site will close, and a new center will open in Aberdeen.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — The Harford County Health Department is moving its coronavirus testing operations from Forest Hill to Aberdeen. Effective Thursday, Oct. 1, the health department will close its testing operation from the VEIP station and open a testing center at the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health's campus in Aberdeen.

"Testing continues to be critical in data collection and the overall health and well-being of our residents of Harford County, especially since we enter the fall and flu season," Acting Harford County Health Office Marcy Austin said in a statement. "It is important to know whether you're experiencing COVID-19 or the flu."

An appointment is required to get tested at the Aberdeen location. People do not need to be Harford County residents to get tested, and testing is free. Those who arrive for testing should be wearing a mask and have their identification on them.

Anyone who is 5 and old that has come into contact with anyone who tested positive for the virus, who has traveled out of state or has attended a large gathering is encouraged to get tested, according to a statement from the Harford County Health Department.

"We're encouraging anyone who is interested in being tested to make an appointment," Austin said.

Operating hours at the Aberdeen coronavirus testing site will be as follows:

  • 10 a.m. to noon Monday
  • 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday
  • 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday
  • 10 a.m. to noon Friday

The Maryland Department of Health, Harford County Health Department and University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health are partners in the testing site, a continuation of the effort that started at the VEIP station in Forest Hill in April.

Upper Chesapeake Health CEO Lyle Sheldon called the Aberdeen testing site a "larger scale effort" and part of a coordinated effort that "helps all of us understand our community's positivity rates for COVID."

Harford County has 2,937 cases of the coronavirus, according to state health officials, who say the positivity rate is 2.3 percent as of Monday, Sept. 21.
