Officials Say Arson Caused Joppa House Fire

An arson investigation is underway following an early morning house fire in Joppa, the fire marshal reports.

JOPPA, MD — Authorities are investigating a fire Thursday morning in Joppa as an arson. Nobody was home at the time of the blaze, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

A passerby in the 400 block of Trimble Road noticed a single-story home was ablaze and alerted authorities at 2:05 a.m., officials said.

Approximately 25 firefighters from Joppa-Magnolia, Abingdon, Kingsville and White Marsh responded, bringing the blaze under control within 20 minutes, according to the fire marshal.

There was an estimated $50,000 in structural damage.

Officials said the house was in the process of being renovated, and nobody was there at the time of the fire.

The fire marshal said that the blaze began on the front porch, and the fire was incendiary, meaning it is being investigated as arson.
