One Dead After Crash On Route 22 At Route 543: Police
Police said a man died after he did not slow down at a traffic light where vehicles were stopped on Churchville Road at MD Route 543.

BEL AIR, MD — Police said a man died in a three-vehicle crash near Bel Air Tuesday afternoon. He was driving the car on MD 22 that started a chain-reaction crash near the Route 543 intersection around 3:10 p.m., according to Maryland State Police.
John Vanluit, 41, of Nottingham, was pronounced deceased at the R Adams Cowley University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he had been taken by medevac, officials said.
Vanluit had been approaching traffic that was stopped at the light on MD 543 but did not slow down or stop his 2018 Nissan Versa, according to investigators.

Police said he was driving west on Route 22/Churchville Road when he hit a 2011 Mini Cooper that was then pushed into a 2014 Chevy Cruz.
Vanluit and his passenger of the Nissan Versa were airlifted from a landing zone at C. Milton Wright High School to shock trauma, where officials said Vanliut died.

The passenger suffered critical injuries, according to the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company.
A third person, who had been in a separate car, was taken by ambulance to a regional trauma center with serious injuries, officials said.
The cause of the deadly crash remains under investigation, police said Wednesday.
