One Dead, One Injured In Whiteford House Fire: Officials
Fire investigators are at the scene of a fatal house fire Thursday morning in Whiteford.
WHITEFORD, MD — One person died and another was injured in a fire early Thursday morning in Whiteford, officials say. Two structures — a house and a small mobile home adjacent to it — were considered a total loss, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
Two families, totaling seven people, have been displaced, officials said. The Red Cross is assisting them.
According to the fire marshal, someone inside the residence in the 4400 block of Prospect Road called 911 after discovering the fire at 1:53 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10.

About 50 firefighters from Harford and York counties battled the two-alarm blaze overnight, bringing it under control within an hour, officials said.
Officials said one person was found deceased inside the home. The identity of the victim was not released, and authorities said the body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Another victim was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, the fire marshal reported.
There were no smoke alarms at the home, investigators said. Total damage was estimated at $150,000.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause and origin of the blaze and said that the response to the blaze would be an "extended operation."
