Paul A. Newcomer, 90, of Bel Air; Champion Beekeeper

Paul A. Newcomer of Bel Air died on Nov. 2, at his home. He was 90.
Mr. Newcomer was born near Glen Rock, Pa., on May 12, 1925, the son of Amos and Flora Depfer Newcomer. He was predeceased by his beautiful wife of 42 years, Jeanne Weigel Newcomer and seven siblings, Edward Newcomer, Harvey Newcomer, William Newcomer, Victor Newcomer, Mae Kearney, James Newcomer, and John Newcomer. Mr. Newcomer and four of his brothers served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Animal Husbandry. He retired as President of the Upper Chesapeake Farm Credit Association in Bel Air in 1988. He was a member of the Bel Air United Methodist Church, Mt. Ararat Masonic Lodge, Harford Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Bonnie Blink Daylight Lodge and a Charter member of the Dr. Coats Memorial Lodge. He was a hobbyist beekeeper and belonged to several beekeeper associations.

Mr. Newcomer enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He was especially proud of his grandchildren. He had a green thumb like no other and many commented on his beautiful rose gardens. He was a champion beekeeper and won many awards for his honey and beeswax candles. Paul was also an avid Penn State, Ravens, and Orioles fan who loved watching the games on TV or listening to them on the radio.
Mr. Newcomer is survived by four children, Andrea Huson and her husband, Stephen Huson of Bel Air, and their sons Matthew and Jonathan; Margo Patrick and her husband, James Patrick of Frederick and their sons Michael and Mark; Paula Flint of Bel Air and her son Asher; and Phillip Newcomer and his wife Dorothy also of Bel Air, and their daughters Deanna and Cara and son Phillip. He is also survived by one sister, Ruth Bricker of Shrewsbury, Pa.

Family and friends will honor Paul’s life at the family-owned Evans Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services-Bel Air, 3 Newport Drive (Rts. 23 & 24-Forest Hill) on Thursday from 3-5 p.m. and 7- 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be celebrated at Bel Air United Methodist Church on Friday at 11:30 a.m.
Entombment: Bel Air Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bel Air United Methodist Church, Mt. Ararat Lodge Trustees, and area Cancer Association or the American Heart Association. Memory tributes may be sent to the family at www.evansfuneralchapel.com.
