BEL AIR, MD — Pete's Cycle in Bel Air will close after decades in operation, according to the owners. The last day of business for the motorcycle dealer on Baltimore Pike will be Saturday. Its other stores — in Baltimore County and Severna Park — will remain open.

Pete's Cycle is a family business that began 81 years ago, according to a letter the owners posted on Facebook, which said the Bel Air shop first opened in 1967.

The Bel Air store is closing as several second-generation owners retire, the letter said. Due to the change, the business is consolidating operations.

John Leach, the youngest active son of the original owners, will remain at the helm of Pete's Cycle.

Leach started working at Pete's Cycle in Bel Air when he was 12 years old, according to The Aegis, which said he moved from Harford to Baltimore County and thought it would be easier to manage two locations rather than three without the help of his siblings. The owners decided to cut the Bel Air business since it was the least profitable, The Aegis reported.
