BEL AIR, MD — Police said two interstate theft suspects are behind bars after an attempted heist at the Harford Mall. The Delaware residents were arrested Tuesday in Bel Air after authorities said they stole more than $1,200 worth of merchandise from Macy's.

Around 7 p.m., police said an officer on holiday patrol at the Harford Mall saw a woman leaving Macy's with merchandise in both arms. Upon seeing Officer Jose Maldonado's patrol vehicle, officials reported she dropped the items and ran toward Boulton Street.

Just as that happened, Maldonado was diverted to an altercation in the vestibule at the Macy's in the 600 block of Baltimore Pike. Authorities said a man was trying to steal merchandise.

Meanwhile, police said Sgt. Ed Smith found the woman who had run into the tree line at Boulton Street.

Andrea Jackson-Deloatch, 21, of Wilmington, Delaware, was charged with theft from $100 to $1,500, court records show. Police said she had an active arrest warrant from Elkton.

The total merchandise stolen and recovered was $1,222, according to the Bel Air Police Department.

Following a bail review hearing Thursday, Triplett was released after posting $3,500 bond. A judge set bail for Jackson-Deloatch at $2,000, court records show.

Police attributed the arrests of the interstate theft suspects to a community effort, citing "keen observations by Bel Air officers, excellent teamwork, and observant citizens."
