Rabies Alert Issued For People, Pets In Darlington Area: Harford Co. Health Department

A rabies alert has been issued for people and pets who may have come into contact with a cat in the Darlington area who tested positive.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — A rabies alert has been issued by the Harford County Health Department.

A cat found in the4800 block of Conowingo Road in Darlington has tested positive for the rabies virus. The county health department confirmed the cat had rabies this week.

Because the cat might have exposed other people and pets in the surrounding area to the rabies virus, anyone who had contact with a white and orange calico cat in the Darlington area between June 18 and June 28 is ask to call the Harford County Health Department at 410-877-2300.

The Harford County Health Department reminds residents:

  • Always keep pets leashed when out for walks and closely monitored in your backyard.
  • All cats, dogs and ferrets should remain up to date on their rabies vaccinations through their vet office or local rabies vaccination clinic.
  • Cover trash cans and do not leave pet food outside.
  • Avoid feeding, petting or interacting with wildlife in any way.
