Real ID Can Mean Real Long Lines at the MVA

Enforcement of the Real ID Act goes into effect October 1, 2020. After October 1st you will no longer be able to board commercial airlines without a Real Compliant ID.

If you do not have a Real ID, don’t wait. To get a Real ID you will be asked to bring additional documentation. Visit the MVA website at http://mva.maryland.gov/ to view the document requirements.

Wait times at MVA locations are extremely long due to the new requirements. Some customers are seeing wait times up to 4 hours. You’re encouraged to go online to the MVA website to make an appointment for your Real ID. Customers with online appointments are guaranteed to have a 15 minute wait time.

The MVA has added 2,700 extra appointments per week to accommodate the new requirements. Some locations will be offering extended hours.
