Remember the mom who had the baby on Philadelphia RD in Abingdon?
He is ONE now! Wow Time flies!
On March 14, 2018 at 9:20pm-I went into labor in my doula, Heather Higgins, passenger seat of her truck. We were en route to Upper Chesapeake and she asked me to call the Dr to let her know we were coming. I don’t remember being able to complete the phone call, but 5 minutes later, Asher would be laying calm and peaceful on my chest. Before pulling over on Philadelphia Road-across from Bush Tavern in Abingdon, My Doula called 911 at 9:23pm, and 911 operator John Rigdon picked up the phone, although I was in the back screaming—He was very calm and did his best to guide us over the phone. Brittany Kane was training him that night and did an amazing job as well, they definitely got more than they bargained for. By 9:25pm-just two minutes later, John asked If Heather could see Ashers head—“He is laying on her chest” were the words I will never forget. She had delivered him already and he was out within minutes of the phone call! The joy, peace, and utter shock in the air l is something I will never forget. The Abingdon Fire Company came shortly after and took great care of Asher and I. They even lifted us onto the stretcher with his umbilical cord still attached to me. John also called the hospital later that night to make sure Asher and I were doing well.I am so grateful for the amazing team of people that made this night so perfect. Each of you holds a special place in my heart and I cannot wait until “Philly” is old enough to know his story. Today, Asher is a healthy, HAPPY, and all around amazing little one year old. With his Big Brown eyes and curly hair, he is sometimes mistaken for a little girl and is often called “Pretty”! He has a 4 tooth smile that can light up the darkest of days. Asher enjoys throwing things, especially balls, but mostly whatever he can get his hands on. He also loves to watch others play basketball, I think he may have a love for the sport already. He Loves playing with his 3 older siblings, spending time with family, friends and running everywhere—he is a fast walker, as he took his first steps at 9 months! I am blessed to be able to watch Asher grow up and hit every milestone and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for Asher Amanuel “Philly” Lightner.
