Report Of Drive-By Shooting False, Teen Shoots Self In Leg: Harford County Sheriff

An Edgewood teenager accidentally shot himself in the leg Friday afternoon. Deputies originally received a report of a drive-by shooting.

EDGEWOOD, MD — Sheriff's deputies dispatched for a report of a drive-by shooting Friday discovered a teenager who had accidentally shot himself.

Around 3:12 p.m. Nov. 17, Harford County sheriff's deputies were called to the 1500 block of Harford Square Dr. in Edgewood for a report of a drive-by shooting. They found a 16-year-old boy with a non-fatal gunshot wound to his thigh. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, according to the sheriff's office.

The investigation led detectives to a nearby residence where a search warrant for the home resulted in the recovery of evidence that included a spent bullet casing and a live round. Through investigation and interviews it was determined the teenager accidentally shot himself with a handgun. Investigators confirmed the incident was not a drive by shooting, the sheriff's office stated.
