Rescuers Investigate Capsized Boat on Gunpowder River

Multiple agencies collaborated in responding to abandoned boat over the weekend, the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company reported.

Search crews were called to the Gunpowder River over the weekend to investigate an abandoned vessel.

After 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, a capsized boat was seen on the Gunpowder River, and the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company reported that its members were going by fire boat to check it out.

The crew found an abandoned raft on the water, officials reported.

Members of the Abingdon Fire Company used sonar technology to check for anybody in the water, officials said.

Meanwhile, Maryland Department of Natural Resources officials and the Baltimore County Police Department contacted the person whose vehicle and boat were in the parking lot at nearby Mariner Park, authorities reported.

By 6 p.m., the Joppa-Magnolia officials said it was determined the raft was "marine trash," and crews were clearing the scene. There were no injuries related to the incident, officials said.
