BEL AIR, MD — Several ambulances were called after a school bus stopped abruptly on Tollgate Road Friday afternoon. While initial reports indicated the bus was involved in a crash, law enforcement authorities said it was not.

The incident happened at 3:39 p.m., according to the Harford County Sheriff's Office. The bus was headed north in the 2500 block of Tollgate Road as it left from Emmorton Elementary School.

The bus had stopped short to avoid a collision, officials said.

"As a result of the stop, six children fell out of their seats and suffered minor injuries. The bus was NOT involved in a collision," the Harford County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

Seven ambulances were called to the scene, according to Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire & EMS Association. He said the response was scaled back after 4 p.m. since all six people who were evaluated refused being taken to the hospital.
