School Nurse At Harford Tech Named MD School Nurse Of The Year
The 2019 Maryland Nurse of the Year is a Harford County Public Schools staffer who provides care and education for students.
BEL AIR, MD — The school nurse at Harford Tech was reportedly named the Maryland School Nurse of the Year. Debra King has earned the 2019 title, according to The Aegis.
The Maryland Association of School Health Nurses received nominations in June for the award, which recognizes someone who has advanced school nursing practice. To be named Maryland School Nurse of the Year, an applicant needed to have two letters of recommendation, a nomination letter and curriculum vitae. Each nominee was scored based on leadership, program management, community involvement, communication, education and collaboration, according to the association.
The head of health services for Harford County Public Schools, who presented King with the award Wednesday, Sept. 18, told The Aegis that King has excelled in educating students about everything from hands-only CPR to healthy sleep habits. She also works as part of a team of professionals including psychologists and athletic trainers to coordinate support for students who may have mental health issues or sports injuries, the newspaper reported.
