Bel Air Teen Killed In Crash Near Churchville: Police

The crash shut down MD 155/Level Road in the Churchville area Monday morning, authorities reported.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — A Bel Air teen died in a crash that shut down MD 155/Level Road for more than two hours Monday morning, officials said.

James Pope, 17, of Bel Air, was pronounced deceased at the scene in the area of Level Road at McCommons Road, according to Maryland State Police.

When troopers were called to the crash at 5:45 a.m., police said they found Pope had run into a tree. He was driving a 2001 Toyota 4Runner west on Level Road when, for reasons that officials reported have not yet been determined, the vehicle went off the road and crashed.

There were no other passengers inside, and no other vehicles were involved, police said.

Level Road was closed for two and a half hours for the crash investigation, according to officials.

PREVIOUS REPORT: A serious crash shut down MD 155/Level Road Monday morning, officials said.

At 6:30 a.m., a life-threatening crash occurred in the 3300 block of Level Road, according to Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.

Gardiner said that MD 155 was closed in the area of Locust Hill Drive as Maryland State Police investigated the collision.

A vehicle had hit a tree in the crash, ABC 2 News reported.
