Severe Weather Alerts Posted Around Maryland

Damaging winds are possible in parts of the state Sunday night, according to the National Weather Service.

As a line of storms approaches, the National Weather Service has issued weather alerts for the Baltimore-Washington region and much of Maryland.

Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Cecil, Harford and Howard counties are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 8 p.m.

Trees and large branches may fall due to damaging winds, which could injure homes, vehicles and people outside, according to the warning. Roads may become blocked by downed trees, and localized power outages are possible, the warning states.

People should move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building for protection during the warning period, according to authorities.

At 7 p.m., storms with 60 mph winds were detected by radar from near Delta, Pa., to Cockeysville to Ellicott City. They were moving east at 40 mph, the severe thunderstorm warning states.

Radar also showed severe thunderstorms in northeastern Maryland before 7 p.m. on a line from Bareville to Holtwood to Jarrettsville. The storms were moving east at 45 mph with 60 mph wind gusts, the weather service reported.

Severe thunderstorms with 60 mph wind gusts were detected in central Maryland as well on a line from Glen Rock to near Westminster around 6:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

These locations may be impacted, the weather service warns: Baltimore, Columbia, Severn, Pikesville, Middle River, Cockeysville, Elkridge, Aberdeen, Havre de Grace, Elkton, North East, Rising Sun, Calvert, Cecilton, Charlestown, Riviera Beach, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Baltimore-Washington Airport, Fort Smallwood State Park, Millers Island, North Point State Park, Sparrows Point, Back River, Historic Ellicott City, Glen Burnie and Ellicott City.

A severe thunderstorm warning for Montgomery County expires at 7:15 p.m.

The severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for these and other areas from 5:30 to 11 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15.

A severe thunderstorm watch means conditions indicate there is potential for severe storms, including showers and damaging winds Sunday night.

Coastal flood warnings are in effect for the bay shore in Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Cecil and Harford counties Sunday night as well.

In addition, a small craft advisory and gale warning have been issued for area waterways.
