Sewage Overflow Leaves Water Off Limits

Thursday's rains helped cause an overflow that has left nearby water unsafe.

A sanitary sewer overflowed for about nine hours during Thursday's rains from Tropical Storm Nicole, contaminating water in the rear of Southampton Middle School and forcing officials to declare the effected areas off-limits for an entire month.

The overflow occurred near the intersection of Lee Way and Pennsylvania Avenue, according to the Bel Air Department of Public Works.

The overflow reached a tributary of Plumtree Run under Shamrock Road and Broadway, across from the back of the Southhamptom Middle School grounds. It then continued into Bynum Run on the northside of Maryland Route 22.
