Maryland Shooter In Custody; 3 Dead, 3 Injured: Sheriff

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — An hours-long manhunt has come to an end with the suspect in custody following a shooting spree that spanned Maryland and Delaware, officials said Wednesday night. Radee Labeeb Prince, 37, was apprehended in Delaware about 7:30 p.m. by federal agents and local officers who had searched for the man accused of killing three people at an Edgewood business, critically injuring two other workers there and then shooting a Wilmington business owner two hours later.

The Harford County Sheriff's Office announced Prince's arrest, capping a day that began with frantic calls for help at Emmorton Business Park and a lockdown of all Edgewood schools for a time. So far, Maryland authorities haven't said what motive Prince may have had for walking into the countertop business where he worked in recent months and firing a handgun at several employees. He then drove to Delaware, where he shot and injured a sixth victim, officials allege.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said Prince was arrested without incident in Newark, Delaware. (For updates, get news alerts from Bel Air Patch.)

It was "one of the most heinous acts we've ever seen in our county," Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler said of the Edgewood mass shooting. Watch the press conference on the Bel Air Patch Facebook page.

"This does appear to be a targeted attack," Gahler said, noting that Prince worked at Advanced Granite Solutions in the 2100 block of Emmorton Park Road in Edgewood.

Those shot were also employees of Advanced Granite Solutions, according to Gahler. Three were killed and two shooting victims were being treated at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where hospital official said they are in critical condition.

The deceased have been identified by the sheriff's office as follows:

• Bayarsaikhan Tudev, 53, of Virginia
• Jose Hidalgo Romero, 34, of Aberdeen
• Enis Mrvoljak, 48, of Dundalk

"To speak to a motive would be way too preliminary," Gahler said, adding that the investigation about how the shooting unfolded was underway.

Prince, who had an address listed in online court records as the 100 block of Clinton Street in Elkton, reportedly fled the shootings in a black 2008 GMC Acadia SUV with Delaware registration PC64273; by the afternoon authorities had images of Prince and the vehicle on social media and highway billboards.

Law enforcement from Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware were on the lookout for Prince, officials said.

The Wilmington Police Department also searched for Prince in connection with a mid-morning shooting in the 2800 block of Northeast Boulevard in Wilmington, Delaware.

The Wilmington shooting occurred at 10:46 a.m. at a car dealership, and the victim, who owned the business, was "conscious and alert" despite being shot in the head, Wilmington Police Chief Robert J. Tracy said at a press conference Wednesday afternoon.

"These were targeted shootings," Tracy said. "He drove straight from Maryland to that individual."

The victim in Wilmington identified the suspect as Prince by name when police arrived at the scene.

"They have a past history," he said without elaboration. The chief said that he had an idea of the motive in Delaware but did not specify.

Prince is known to have family in the Wilmington area, police said. He has 42 arrests in Delaware, according to Tracy, who said many were for violating probation, and police were looking into his known associates.

After he allegedly attacked a coworker at another job earlier this year, Prince was fired. Another coworker applied for a restraining order, reportedly worried that he would also be harmed. “I do not want to wait until he will.…He can also do it to me," the worker wrote, according to documents obtained by The Baltimore Sun. A judge did not issue the peace order.

"Our sympathy and prayers are with the families of the lost and the injured employees in today’s horrible shooting," Harford County Executive Barry Glassman said in a statement.

"Harford’s allied emergency services are assisting the Harford County Sheriff’s Office and the impacted families," Glassman said. "In addition, my administration’s Department of Emergency Services is assisting our local, state and federal partners in apprehending the suspect."

Federal and local law enforcement authorities remain at the scene investigating the shooting on Emmorton Park Road, located near the intersection of Route 24.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan issued a statement asking Marylanders to remain vigilant and to alert authorities if they see the suspect.

"I just got off the phone with Harford County Executive Barry Glassman and Sheriff Jeff Gahler and reaffirmed the state's complete and full support as they respond to this tragic shooting," Hogan said. "State helicopters are in the air and state troopers are on the ground from multiple barracks. I ask all citizens - especially those in this area - to please remain vigilant, and if you think you may have any information about this terrible crime, please call 911 immediately. The First Lady and I ask that all Marylanders join with us in praying for the victims, their loved ones, and those still fighting to live."

Families with loved ones who work in the business park should report to the Richlin Ballroom at 1700 Van Bibber Road in Edgewood for reunification, the sheriff's office advised.

Five Edgewood schools were on modified lockdowns on Wednesday morning, and officials said in the afternoon that those were lifted. Athletic events will proceed as scheduled.

The schools involved were Edgewood High School, Edgewood Middle School, Deerfield Elementary School, Edgewood Elementary School and William Paca/Old Post Road Elementary School.

"We will proceed with all remaining activities today, including athletic events, as planned," Harford County Public Schools said in a statement.

PREVIOUS REPORT: Multiple injuries have been reported following a shooting at the Emmorton Business Park, says the Harford County Sheriff's Office, which is warning people to avoid the area Wednesday morning. Five Edgewood schools are currently on modified lockdown out of "an abundance of caution," school officials said.

Deputies are at the scene of a shooting where multiple people have been injured at the business park in the 2100 block of Emmorton Park Road, the sheriff's office reported before 9:45 a.m.

As of 10:45 a.m., two people from the incident were being evaluated at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, officials said.

Harford County Public Schools says on its website that Edgewood High School, Edgewood Middle School, Deerfield Elementary School, Edgewood Elementary School and William Paca/Old Post Road Elementary School are on modified lockdown at the request of the sheriff's office.

Students must remain in the building, with no outside activities, authorities say. No visitors are permitted to enter the buildings at this time.

"Our schools are secure at this time and we ask for your patience and understanding that we are receiving an influx of calls and you may not be able to get through right away — we will do our best to answer any questions you may have if it is necessary to contact the affected schools at this time," the school message said.

There was police activity in the area, the sheriff's office said in a statement after 9 a.m. on Wednesday. The Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company reported that it had multiple crews at the scene, along with the Abingdon Fire Company.

Someone who works at R.E. Michael Company in the business park called Fox 45 to report that the business in the 2100 block of Emmorton Park Road was on lockdown with clients inside and SWAT and emergency medical responders active in the area.
