Siren Testing is Planned at Peach Bottom
The nuclear power plant on the Susquehanna River will conduct a test Wednesday afternoon.

Sirens will sound for a few minutes Wednesday as part of a test at Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station, according to Harford County's Office of Emergency Management.
The sirens will go off for three minutes, starting at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
"Please be aware that this is only a test," Harford County emergency officials said.

Under non-test circumstances, the sirens would go off to signal to citizens that they should listen to an Emergency Alert Broadcast Station to get information from state authorities.
The alert system includes 97 outdoor sirens installed in a 10-mile warning zone around Peach Bottom's campus along the Susquehanna River. In an electrical outage, the sirens will work through a battery-powered backup system, according to Exelon.

The nuclear power station tests its sirens biannually, once in June and again in December, according to Exelon, which operates the facility.
