Smoke and Fire at Harford Community College are Planned: Officials

Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company is training by burning down a house on campus.

The public is asked to steer clear of Harford Community College Sunday due to live fire training.

From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., firefighters will burn a single-family home on the west side of the campus on Thomas Run Road, according to Sheila Terry, spokeswoman for Harford Community College.

No road closures are anticipated but ”people are asked to stay away from the area” for safety reasons, Terry said.

This is the second live fire training that firefighters are conducting this month at the campus. They burned down a house on June 13 as well.

The Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company shared pictures of the June 28 training at approximately 10 a.m. showing the house on fire and scores of volunteers on the premises.

The training is taking place in the 400 block of Thomas Run Road, across from the college’s Joppa Hall, according to Rich Gardiner of the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company.

“You will see a large amount of smoke and fire....coming from that area” between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., Gardiner said.
