Snow Emergency Plan Lifted In Harford County

Officials have lifted the snow emergency plan in Harford County.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Harford County was under a snow emergency plan on Wednesday, Feb. 20. The snow emergency plan is designed to assist the State Highway Administration in snow clearing operations.

The snow emergency plan was in effect for Harford County from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Harford County received reports of up to 4.3 inches of snow on Wednesday, based on preliminary data from the National Weather Service. That amount was measured in Fallston.

PREVIOUS REPORT (EXPIRED as of 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20) — Harford County is under a snow emergency plan on Wednesday, Feb. 20. In a snow emergency, state police may immediately authorize the towing of vehicles parked on snow emergency routes as well as those left in roads or on shoulders.

To be allowed to drive on Maryland highways in a snow emergency, vehicles must be equipped with snow tires (all-weather tires are fine), chains or all-season radials.

In Havre de Grace, the snow emergency route is Revolution Street to Union Avenue to Otsego Street.

Harford County is under a winter storm warning until 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

About 1 inch of snow per hour will fall through early Wednesday afternoon, according to the winter storm warning, which calls for 3 to 6 inches of snow in Harford County.

As of 10 a.m., Fallston has reported 1.5 inches of snowfall, according to unofficial data submitted to the National Weather Service.

Snow will change to sleet and freezing rain between 1 and 3 p.m., continue as freezing rain through late Wednesday afternoon and transition to straight rain Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service. About 0.1 to 0.25 inch ice may accumulate.

"Travel will be very difficult, especially late this morning into early this afternoon," the winter storm warning states. "The hazardous conditions will impact the latter portion of the morning commute, and they may also impact the evening commute as well."

Northern and western suburbs of Baltimore may see the highest snowfall accumulations, weather officials say.

Travel will be hazardous during the winter storm warning period. The weight of the snow, sleet and freezing rain could cause branches to fall and isolated power outages to occur, according to the warning.

Aberdeen City Hall: Closing at noon.

Aberdeen Proving Ground: Closed.

Bel Air town government offices: Closed at 10 a.m. Essential employees are to report.

Harford County Public Schools: Closed, with after-school and evening activities canceled.

Harford Community College and TUNE: Closed; check email/Blackboard for assignments.

Harford County government: Closed

Harford County Public Library: Closed

Havre de Grace City Hall: Closed. Essential personnel are to report on schedule. City Hall will reopen at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21.

John Carroll School: closed
