Sobriety Checkpoint in Joppa on Tap for Cinco de Mayo
Maryland State Police will conduct a DUI checkpoint on Interstate 95 in Harford County on Thursday, May 5.

JOPPA, MD – Celebrating Cinco de Mayo? Plan your designated driver before you hit the margaritas or the tequila.
Maryland State Police will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint on the ramp from Interstate 95 to MD 152 for the occasion.

The checkpoint will start at 11 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, according to police.
Troopers from the JFK, Bel Air and North East barracks will join deputies from the Harford County Sheriff's Office for a press conference at 10:30 p.m. on Thursday at the MD 152 park and ride before the checkpoint begins.

Police said the initiative is part of the Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign.
One of several states in the region participating in Checkpoint Strikeforce, Maryland has committed to holding a checkpoint at least once a month from January to June and weekly from July through December with the goal of taking drunk and drugged drivers off the road.
In Maryland, the legal limit for blood alcohol consumption and driving is .08 percent.
