STEM Day 2023 Will Be Feb. 11 At Harford Community College

Presenters are needed for STEM Day 2023 and attendees can register now for a spot at the Feb. 11 event hosted by Harford Community College.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — On Feb. 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Harford Community College will host STEM Day 2023.

STEM Day offers prospective and current students, employers and anyone with an interest in STEM a chance to see how STEM applies to relevant, real-world learning experiences. The day consists of scientific sessions as well as presentations of both professional and undergraduate research projects.

Amelia McNamara, Ph.D., assistant professor of statistics at the University of St. Thomas in
Minnesota, will deliver the keynote address, “Data Science as a Super Power.” McNamara
says her work "is focused on learning what makes it easier to understand statistics . . . and my
research interests include statistics education, statistical computing, data visualization and
spatial statistics."

Presentations for STEM Day include Harford students Alexandra Fender and Kellie Simon:
“Discovery of ShaKen Bacteriophage,” faculty Dr. Alejandro Satz: “Quantum Entanglement: A
Simple Explanation of a Bewildering Subject,” student Thomas McCarty-Gibson: “Experiences
With the SMART Scholarship and Harford Community College,” student Druscilla Darkwa,
“Benjaporn Perkins: Isolation and Discovery of a Bacteriophage From an Environmental
Sample,” and student Izora Williams: “Bacteriophage PierreOrion.”

Harford Community College currently is accepting proposals for 20-minute presentations or
poster presentations from faculty, students or professionals in a STEM-based program or
profession. Proposals are due by Jan. 15. RSVP to attend at
