Student Member Of The Board Starts Term This Summer

Harford County Public School's student member of the board starts her term July 1. A new member filling a vacant seat began last month.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — A Bel Air High School student will start her term as the new student member of the board this summer, following on the heels of the May appointment of a new school board member.

BangTam Miller was sworn in at a May meeting, filling the seat vacated by Mark Korn, who resigned. Miller is a 51-year resident of Harford County and was born in Vietnam. Her family immigrated to the United Stated in 1975, and she and her six siblings graduated from Edgewood High School. In 2017 Miller and her siblings, known as the “Dang Seven,” were inducted into Edgewood High School's Hall of Fame.

Miller retired from Harford County Public Schools after spending 26 years there as a teacher, mentor, recruiter, assistant principal, and in the Central Office as an accountability coordinator and human resources compliance and labor relations specialist.

Miller served as a STEM Master Teacher for Maryland's Educator Effectiveness Academy and as an adjunct instructor for the College of Notre Dame Teacher Prep Program. In 2010, she represented Harford County at Taiwan's National Educator Conference.

Miller holds a master's in curriculum and instruction from McDaniel College, a bachelor's in elementary education from Towson University and an associate of arts in education from
Harford Community College.

The new student member of the board, Vibha Nanduri, was elected to her position by her fellow students at the Harford County Region of the Association of Student Councils.

Vibha is enrolled in the Bel Air High School Biomedical Sciences program and currently serves as the first vice president of Harford County Regional Association of Student Councils and the environmental affairs coordinator for the Maryland Association of Student Councils. She has advocated in Annapolis to increase statewide education funding through the Maryland Blueprint and has been a frequent speaker during public comments at board of education meetings.

Vibha's term will start July 1 and run through June 20.
