Terry L. LaPorte, age 73 of Chesney Lane, in Bel Air, Maryland died peacefully on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at his home.
He was born Oct. 20, 1942 at Altoona, Pa., son of Karl E. and Kathleen Kaufman LaPorte. He is survived by a twin sister, Mrs. Stephen F. (Nancy) Jusick, her husband Stephen of Princeton, N.J.; a niece, Jill Ellen Bentley, her husband Mark of Ringoes, N.J., a nephew, Stephen Kent Jusick of New York City and three great nephews, Drew, Alex, and Rick Bentley, and a good and caring friend, Matthew Patek.
He was a member of Christ Our King Presbyterian Church in Bel Air and a friend of the First and Franklin Street Presbyterian Church in Baltimore. He was a founding member of the Harford County Public School’s Association of School Librarians, a member of the Maryland Association of School Librarians, The American Library Association and the American Association of School Librarians. On May 21, 2012, he was inducted into the Harford County Educator’s Hall of Fame. He had served the HarCo Maryland Federal Credit Union as chairman of the credit committee and the board of directors. He served two terms as president of the Old Fields Homeowners Association.

He was a graduate of Tyrone (PA) Area High School, Clarion University of Pennsylvania and Towson University. He retired from Harford County (MD) Public Schools after working forty years in 2007, twenty-eight of those years as a school based library media specialist and twelve years as Supervisor of Library Services for the school system. After retirement he continued to work for Marriott Hotels in Aberdeen.
Family and friends will gather to honor Terry’s life at the family owned Evans Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services – Bel Air, 3 Newport Dr. (Rts. 23 & 24 – Forest Hill) on Thursday, April 21, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held the following day, at Christ Our King Presbyterian Church, 10 Lexington Rd., in Bel Air, with Rev. Terrence Alspaugh officiating (time to be announced). Interment, at a later date, will be at Bel Air Memorial Gardens.
