BEL AIR, MD — An odor caused the TJ Maxx to be evacuated Sunday in Bel Air, according to officials. Multiple people told Bel Air Patch that they were coughing in the store, which has since reopened.

Crews responded to the T.J. Maxx at Tollgate Marketplace off Baltimore Pike around 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18, because of an unusual odor, said Jenn Chenworth, spokeswoman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.

Hazmat was called, and the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company evaluated one person at the store. A total of two people were medically evaluated, and nobody was taken from the scene for further treatment, according to Chenworth. She said a cause of the odor was not reported.
