Tollgate Road To Close For 4 Months

A section of South Tollgate Road will be closed for culvert replacement and road reconstruction.

BEL AIR, MD — A section of Tollgate Road will be closed for culvert replacement and road reconstruction, Harford County officials announced. The closure will begin Monday, Sept. 24, and is expected to last for four months. That means the reopening date is late January 2019.

South Tollgate Road will be closed between West Ring Factory Road and Plumtree Road.

Emergency vehicles and residents will be able to get through during the closure, but others will be detoured around the work zone.

The exception is at 1512 South Tollgate Road, where the culvert is being removed and replaced; nobody will be able to get through there.

The culvert replacement is unrelated to the Labor Day weekend floods that necessitated other road work projects, according to Harford County government spokeswoman Cindy Mumby.

However, she said that since the new culvert will be able to convey more water, it will reduce the number of times the South Tollgate Road is closed in the future due to flooding.

During the closure for the culvert replacement, drivers should follow detour signs and plan to take alternate routes.
