BEL AIR, MD — Eleven-year-old twins were caught Monday by police breaking out the window of a car, damaging a steering column and tampering with a car's door handle, according to authorities.

A witness contacted police around 10:30 a.m. March 30 reporting two people trying to break into vehicles. Harford County sheriff's deputies arrived on scene and found two people matching the description provided by the 911 caller.

They also found damage to two cars, including a shattered window and damaged steering column and door handle. The suspects admitted to being in the area to “steal a car so they could drive around,” the sheriff's office stated.

The two suspects also were found with screwdrivers and a USB cable, which can be used to steal certain cars.

"These two were certainly arrested, right? No, they weren’t. They are 11-year-old twins, so there are zero criminal repercussions with the current juvenile laws. Amazingly, these two kids were involved in a similar incident in another local jurisdiction two years ago. They were turned over to their parent and the vehicle owners were left with nothing to do, other than file an insurance claim," the sheriff's office stated.
