Two Sisters Gallery Closing In Bel Air

A gallery owned by two sisters in Bel Air is closing.

BEL AIR, MD — Two Sisters Gallery on Main Street in Bel Air is closing up shop. The owners, who are siblings, say they have decided to retire.

Debbie Haywood and Bonnie Hardy described the decision to close as "bittersweet," since they will be able to pursue the next phase of their lives but will close the doors to a shop that has become part of their family.

Over the years, the sisters came to form strong bonds with their customers at their shop on South Main Street in downtown Bel Air. They started the store 15 years ago to showcase local and regional artists, and it has grown to feature work from 150 artists and artisans from around North America.

"We have a wonderful base of customers who we know by name; they have become part of the Two Sisters family," Haywood said. When the store closes, she said she plans to spend time with her biological family.

"I have two beautiful granddaughters, and I’d love to be able to spend some time with them as well as travel and, perhaps, work part-time as well—I like to stay busy!” Haywood said.

"This is a bittersweet time—we’re going to miss seeing all the customers we’ve come to know as friends," Hardy said. She also loves to travel and has planned two international trips with her husband for 2018.

The store will remain open until the inventory is gone. The owners anticipate they will close the doors to the gallery for good in about four to six weeks.

Two Sisters Gallery had an impromptu open house after announcing their retirement on Wednesday, Jan. 3. There will be a retirement sale starting on Thursday, Jan. 4. All items in the store will be heavily discounted. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. The gallery is closed on Sundays.
