The United States Army Field Band and Soldiers’ Chorus Concert

Harford Community College highly values its active duty military and veteran students.

Harford Community College hosted The United States Army Field Band and Soldiers’ Chorus on May 18. The event, which was held in conjunction with Armed Forces Week, was co-presented by the APG Federal Credit Union Arena at Harford Community College and WXCY 103.7 FM. Concert partners also included the Harford County Office of Community & Economic Development and the Aberdeen Proving Ground Community.

The evening began with the WXCY Military Monday Honorees reception. Every Monday WXCY honors a local hero on-air who has served our country. At the reception, WXCY’s Tyler Daniel introduced speakers Dr. Dianna G. Phillips, President of Harford Community College; Major General Randy S. Taylor, Senior Commander of Aberdeen Proving Ground and Commanding General of the Communications-Electronics Command; and Harford County Executive Barry Glassman. The speakers thanked veterans and active duty military for their service, and their families, to our nation and acknowledged the importance of working together with community partners.

Following the reception, Dr. Phillips, Major General Taylor, and County Executive Glassman welcomed the audience in the APGFCU Arena at HCC to the performance. As an institution that highly values its active duty military and veteran students, Harford was delighted to host the musical ambassadors of the army. The musicians performed an inspirational and wide-ranging program of marches, overtures, popular music, patriotic selections and instrumental and vocal solos for approximately 1,350 appreciative attendees.

Military attendees included Major General Taylor; Major General Cedric Wins, Commanding General of the Research, Development and Engineering Command; Major General David Bassett, Program Executive Officer, Command, Control and Communications-Tactical; Commanders, Command Sergeant Majors, and members of the Senior Executive Service.

Harford County Executive Barry Glassman, Harford County Councilman Jim McMahan, Harford County Councilman Mike Perrone, Maryland State Delegate and Susan McComas, were also in attendance along with the evening’s co-presenter, WXCY General Manager Bob Bloom.

The United States Army Field Band and Soldiers’ Chorus is America’s foremost touring musical organization. According to Omar J. Jones IV, Brigadier General, U.S. Army, Chief of Public Affairs, “These talented men and women represent the dedication, devotion, and service of all American Soldiers and Army Civilians and honor our nation’s Veterans through the highest standards of excellence, talent, and professionalism.”

Armed Forces Day, which is held annually on the third Saturday of May, is a time to honor the men and women who serve in the armed forces in the United States. Armed Forces Day culminates the end of Armed Forces Week in which each branch of the military is honored.
