Veterans Day 2017 In Bel Air

BEL AIR, MD — The nation will be honoring the men and women who have served in the military on Veterans Day, which in 2017 is on Saturday, Nov. 11. For the occasion, the town of Bel Air is holding a special World War I centennial commemoration including a wreath laying and historic component. There will also be a ceremony at the Bel Air Memorial Gardens hosted by the American Legion Harford Post #39 on Saturday, Nov. 11.

Because the holiday falls on the weekend this year, the federal government is observing Veterans Day on Friday, Nov. 10. As a result, many state and local governments and schools will be closed on Friday also.

Here's what's open and closed for Veterans Day 2017:

• Students in Harford County Public Schools will have the day off for professional development day on Friday, Nov. 10. Teachers will report.
• All branches of the Harford County Public Library will be closed on Friday, Nov. 10.
• The town of Bel Air government offices will be closed on Friday, Nov. 10.
• Federal offices that are non-essential will be closed Friday, as will Maryland government offices.
• Post offices will be open on Friday, but closed on Saturday. There will be no mail delivery on Saturday.
• Banks have the option of closing for Veterans Day. Bank of America's financial centers will be closed on Saturday. Call before you head out to do your banking.
• The stock market will be open on Friday.

A wreath laying ceremony is planned for 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, in downtown Bel Air, at the World War I Monument at 37 North Main Street. There will also be an exhibit of photographs and artifacts showing the war's effect on Harford County on display at the Harford County Historical Society, and a music history lesson about the role that music played in the lives of soldiers during World War I.

The Harford County Marine Corps League Detachment 1198 will serve as the color guard at noon at Mission BBQ in Perry Hall during a Veterans Day ceremony there on Saturday, Nov. 11.

The American Legion Harford Post 39 will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at Bel Air Memorial Gardens, Moores Mill Road and Rock Spring Road.
