Body Camera Captures Firefighter's View While Battling House Fire With $350K Loss

A firefighter's chest-mounted camera shows what emergency crews see when trying to save a home in Havre de Grace that caught on fire Friday.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — A Havre de Grace home located at 204 Paradise Road North caught on fire Aug. 11 around 4:40 p.m. An estimated 65 firefighters battled the blaze from several fire departments and companies.

A "pipeman" from Engine 113 with the Level Volunteer Fire Company shared a short video of the crews battling the blaze from a chest-mounted camera, which can be seen here.

The owner, Peter Annunziato, discovered the fire on the outside of his home. It took firefighters half an hour to gain control of the fire, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal. According to the Level Volunteer Fire Company, the first crew focused on knocking down most of the fire on the outside of the home before moving to the interior to extinguish the fire on the first floor. Additional crews arrived and attacked the fire on the second floor. Another crew put up ladders and cut a ventilation hole in the roof.

Tanker trucks shuttled water to the scene while a rehab area was set up by emergency medical services so that crews could rotate while battling the fire, which took around two hours in all.

The two-story single family home was reported as a loss at $350,000.
