Volunteers Needed For Harford County Food Bank's Give Back Day

Volunteers can sign up today to help with various projects at the Harford County Food Bank's Give Back Day. Teens are welcome to help.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — People wanting to contribute to their community and help others can pitch in at the Harford County Food Bank's Give Back Day.

The community project will happen July 14 at the Harford Community Action Agency, located at 1321 Woodbridge Station Way B, Edgewood, from 7:45-11 a.m. All volunteers will receive snacks, a free T-shirt and the satisfaction of helping out others.

PJ Craig, chief executive officer of HCAA, told Patch there are volunteer opportunities available throughout the year, but the event will be the first of many organized volunteer days to support The Harford Food Bank, an HCAA initiative.

Volunteers will work alongside HCAA team members to tackle various projects, including building family food boxes that go directly to neighbors in need.

"Volunteers will help with tasks needed to keep The Harford Food Bank running, like stocking shelves, unpacking boxes, greeting guests and more. We will have music and snacks available, so it will be a fun day for all," Craig told Patch.

Volunteers younger than 16 must have an adult with them to supervise.

"HCAA is a great place for young people to start their volunteer hours for graduation," Craig noted.

Having extra hands helping at the food bank - especially during the summer - is a blessing for everyone, organizers say.

"Food insecurity doesn't take a summer break, and neither does our commitment to fighting it. That's why volunteer turnout on July 14 matters so much. The Harford County Food Bank can only move as much food as the people showing up to move it. During fiscal year 2025, we served over 5,200 individuals in Harford County. Food insecurity affects so many of our community members, and every volunteer we have makes a difference," Craig told Patch.

Anyone interested in volunteering can sign up online and must submit a volunteer application before their shift.
