HCPS Changes Weather Decision For Tuesday, Feb. 12

School officials reevaluated weather and travel conditions in Harford County Tuesday morning and issued a change of plans.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Public schools in Harford County will be closed on Tuesday, Feb. 12. Harford County Public Schools made the decision after 5 a.m. on Tuesday.

Unsafe travel conditions as well as weather forecasts factored into the decision to close, officials said. Side roads across the county were not safe, according to Harford County Public Schools.

Both schools and school offices will be closed on Tuesday.

After-school and evening activities for Tuesday are canceled, according to the announcement.

The Board of Education meeting that had been planned for Tuesday, Feb. 12, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 19.

Harford County is under a winter storm warning until 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12, for snow, sleet and freezing rain. Up to 9 inches of snow may fall in parts of Harford County, according to the warning.

After midnight, the National Weather Service received a measurement of 6.7 inches of snow in Bel Air.

Citing the weather forecast and travel conditions, Harford County Public Schools announced that schools and offices will open on a two-hour delay Tuesday. Morning prekindergarten is canceled.

First shift custodians should report at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, officials said.

The decision will be reevaluated Tuesday morning, according to Harford County Public Schools.
