Weather Decision Made For Tuesday Classes: Harford County Public Schools

Harford County Public Schools officials have made a decision about classes on Tuesday, the district announced Monday afternoon.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Due to the storm forecast for Tuesday, Harford County Public Schools schools and offices will close three hours early Jan. 9.

There will be no preschool, early intervention or early learner regional programs operating Tuesday. There won't be any after school activities or after school daycare either on Tuesday. Second shift custodians are not to report to school Tuesday.

"The timing of this storm would have an impact on the dismissal process and consequent bus routes and activities. Our goal with this advance notice is to ensure the safety of our students and staff while also providing families an opportunity to plan ahead for this unexpected change in schedule. Thank you for your understanding," Harford County Public Schools posted on its Facebook page Monday afternoon.

A strong storm will roll into Maryland Tuesday and has been forecast to dump more than 3 inches of rain falling in a six-hour period in the early evening. The downpours Tuesday evening will be blinding, with the potential for flash flooding, according to forecasts. Damaging 55 mph wind gusts also are in the forecast. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for parts of Maryland from 1 p.m. on Tuesday through 7 a.m. on Wednesday.

A coastal Maryland flood watch will be in effect through late Tuesday night. Residents should expect 2 to 3 feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas in southern Baltimore and Anne Arundel counties due to tidal flooding, the NWS said.
