White Supremacist Flyers Appear in Fountain Glen

Officials are investigating antisemitic literature that appeared in Bel Air area neighborhood.

BEL AIR, MD — Authorities are investigating after flyers promoting a white supremacist group appeared in a Bel Air area neighborhood this week.

The Harford County Sheriff's Office received two calls about suspicious messages and literature left in the Fountain Glen subdivision between 8:45 and 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

Authorities said the antisemitic flyers were believed to have been distributed Wednesday morning on East Banavie Terrace, according to Fox 45. They directed readers to a Neo-Nazi website and had swastikas on them.

Stacks of the flyers were reportedly left at the end of people's driveways in a neighborhood where one resident told The Aegis: "Everywhere you go, people are nice."

This was not the first case of antisemitism reported in the Bel Air area in recent months. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, a mother was shopping for Hanukkah decorations in Bel Air when another shopper shouted a profanity at them because of their religious affiliation.

Rabbi Gila Ruskin of Temple Adas-Shalom in Havre de Grace told the Baltimore Jewish Times that the flyers were "part of a trend" in which people "put their hate on the outside." The phenomenon, she said, was both "upsetting" and "frightening," and her solution was for people to engage in conversations about issues with one another.
