Harford County Winter Weather Advisory Extended
The National Weather Service has updated snowfall projections and extended the winter weather advisory period Friday.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — The National Weather Service has updated a winter weather advisory for northern and central Maryland, including Harford County. The advisory calls for snow that could make travel difficult on Friday, Feb. 1, and has been extended until 5 p.m. as snow continues to fall.
"Any leftover light snow or flurries will taper off by this evening," the National Weather Service said in a special weather statement around 3 p.m. "However, very cold conditions will persist through tonight and into Saturday morning."
The low Friday night is 14 degrees in Harford County, according to the forecast.

"The combination of cold conditions, light winds and possible fog will enhance the threat for icy spots on roadways through Saturday morning," the special weather statement said. "Use extra caution and be alert for slippery spots. Even roadways that appear to be wet may be icy."
Temperatures are expected to go up to 38 degrees on Saturday, Feb. 2.

When the National Weather Service issued the advisory on Thursday, it said that about 1 to 2 inches of snow could fall.
On Friday morning, officials increased the snowfall projections, stating that 1 to 3 inches of snow are now expected during the winter weather advisory period.
As snow began falling, Harford County Public Schools announced that schools would dismiss early.
The winter weather advisory was initially to take effect from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the National Weather Service decided Friday afternoon to extend the advisory period until 5 p.m.
Baltimore, Carroll, Frederick, Harford, Howard and Montgomery counties as well as Baltimore City are under the advisory.

The winter weather advisory is in effect from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1.
Baltimore, Carroll, Frederick, Harford, Howard and Montgomery counties as well as Baltimore City are under the advisory.
About 1 inch of snow is anticipated, with locally higher amounts of 2 inches near the Mason-Dixon Line.

The steadiest period of snow is expected between 7 a.m. and noon on Friday.
Officials advise it may impact the morning commute.

"When venturing outside, watch your first few steps," the winter weather advisory says.
In particular, pedestrians should take care on steps, sidewalks and driveways, which may all be icy and slippery.
