Emergency crews did rescue a man from the two-story home. MCFRS said he was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two firefighters were also treated but have since been released.

Early estimates suggest the fire amounted to more than $750,000 in damages. MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer said the home was fitted with smoke alarms.

He described the fire as "very significant, heavy fire conditions and smoke conditions."

"In fact, neighbors were reporting the fire was already through the roof at that point when firefighters arrived on the scene."

Both a fire and a death investigation are ongoing.

In the aftermath of the fire, MCFRS announced it would hold a neighborhood fire safety check in the neighborhood, checking smoke alarms and touching base with the community.
