MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — The Bullis School's boys track team made history over the weekend after becoming the first American high school to win the High School Boys’ 4x400m Championship of America relay.
The Saturday win cemented the first time a U.S. high school won the coveted championship title in nearly two decades. It was last won in 2007 by California's Long Beach Polytechnic High School.
The Potomac-based team was led by runners Zayden Saxton, Cameron Homer, Gideon Newton, and Quincy Wilson.
Finishing the relay at a pace of 3:09.62, the Bullis squad secured the fastest indoor time of the season. Wilson, who specializes in the 400-meter dash, ran a 45.58 split to win the race.
Wilson, now 18 and committed to the University of Maryland, became one of the youngest Olympians in history when he qualified to make up part of the track and field team that represented the U.S. in the 2024 Summer Olympics. He was 16 at the time and went on to win a gold medal.
The weekend win saw the Bullis crew beat out Jamaica College and Kingston College. The race had previously been won by Kingston College since 2022.
The Penn Relays dates back to 1895, when it was launched in Pennsylvania as a new venue for relay racing. It is considered one of the oldest and largest competitions in the U.S.
