MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — A 41-year-old man was fatally shot early Thursday near the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel off Rockville Pike.
Montgomery County Police said officers were alerted to the shooting on the 5700 block of Marinelli Road shortly after 11:30 a.m.
MCPD spokesperson Shiera Goff told reporters the man was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service. Life-saving measures were initially provided by police before MCFRS arrived.
The man, police said, was shot in a parking lot near the hotel. The latest details issued by the police department revealed that the man was a guest at the hotel.
No information about the suspected shooter has been released.
Goff said investigators did not have the individual in custody, adding that police canvassed the area with assistance from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and Metro Transit police.
Surveillance footage is being reviewed by investigators.
There is no indication the shooting was tied to the data center conference being held at the hotel, according to Goff, who also said the shooter did not use Metro Rail to leave the area.
The investigation remains ongoing.
