BETHESDA, MD — A taqueria with Northern Virginia roots is expanding its footprint in Montgomery County, with plans to kick open the doors on a new location in downtown Bethesda this fall.
Taco Bamba announced in a Wednesday release that the restaurant would be taking over the space that previously housed Casa Oaxaca in Woodmont Triangle.
The site at 4905 Fairmont Ave.not only includes 1,850 square feet of interior space but also another 2,000 square feet of patio area.
Until the fall opening, organizers say the space will be entirely rebuilt "with a look that strips things back to basics: still red, black, and natural wood, but simpler, edgier, and more deliberately raw than many of the taqueria’s more recent restaurant designs."
"We've operated in Montgomery County for a while now, and Bethesda has always felt like the right next move,” said chef Victor Albisu, who launched Taco Bamba in 2013 in Falls Church, Virginia.
"Downtown, walkable, a real dining neighborhood. And with this space, we had a chance to get back to something a little rawer, closer to what the brand looked and felt like in the early days. We see the large outdoor patio as a special opportunity."
Diners wanting to get their taco fix will have the opportunity to select from a variety of dishes, all of which start with tacos, tortas and quesadillas.
One item returning due to popular demand is the Mike Honcho, which is described by the eatery as "a chili relleno riff with an Anaheim chili stuffed with smoked brisket, Chihuahua cheese, rajas, nacho cheese, and poblano ranch dressing.
The opening will mark Taco Bamba's 17th location, but just its third within the county. Other bases can be found at 1627 Rockville Pike in Congressional Plaza and at 670 Quince Orchard Road in Gaithersburg.
Listed opening times for both locations run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
