Residents of The Grandview, an Erickson Senior Living community in Bethesda, Md., love living close to shops, restaurants, and entertainment in the vibrant neighborhood as well as those in nearby Washington, D.C.

To add to the list of local gems, The Grandview recently opened its on-site Rock Spring Urban Park, which features picnic tables, outdoor fitness equipment, and a playground for when the grandkids come to visit.

George Mishraky, sales director for The Grandview, notes that the park is accessible to residents and the local community. Although it will soon be deeded to Montgomery County, Erickson Senior Living will continue to maintain the park.

"The Grandview wanted to immerse itself in the neighborhood, so we created a park that anyone can use," explains Mishraky. "There are only a few parks in the area, so this added green space--for all to enjoy--will contribute to a sense of community in Bethesda."

Glorious green space

As with all Erickson Senior Living communities, green spaces and outdoor activity areas were integral to the design of The Grandview.

"Since The Grandview is Erickson Senior Living's first high-rise community, we recognized that it was very important to have spaces and amenities that would allow residents to enjoy the great outdoors," explains Mishraky.

In addition to Rock Spring Urban Park, residents have access to a walking trail that circles the entire community, perfect for a power walk or leisurely stroll. The grounds also boast bocce courts with tables and chairs nearby so neighbors can watch their friends play.

"Residents love taking their dogs to the enclosed dog park," Mishraky says. "Another popular gathering spot is the outdoor lounge with firepits and chairs--the perfect spot to wind down with a glass of wine after a busy day."

Residents interested in using their green thumbs can tend to fruits, veggies, and flowers in the community garden.

"Every time I walk through campus, I can't believe how amazing it looks!" Mishraky says.

Delicious dining

One of the best ways to spend time outside, of course, is dining al fresco. Crescent Overlook, located on The Grandview's main level, features a covered outdoor terrace.

The View at 140th, the community's rooftop restaurant and wine bar, offers stunning sights of Bethesda, with outdoor seating that includes upholstered chairs and sofas. "Even if you're sitting inside, the restaurant's glass panels can be opened to give diners an indoor-outdoor experience," adds Mishraky.

Residents can also dine outdoors from the comfort of their own home. Many floor plans feature a covered balcony, perfect for morning coffee and sunset dinners.

Meeting neighbors

Clearly, residents of The Grandview have plenty of opportunities to get outside and enjoy the fresh air.

But what makes Rock Spring Urban Park stand out is the ability to connect with the greater Bethesda area.

"Residents are loving the park! From cookouts to live music at the pavilion, sunny days are full of fun here," notes Mishraky. "Most of all, they like how they can meet people from the neighborhood."
